I Want to Be Zack Snyder [updated]

While items on my to-do list this week included: 1) trying to arrange to get carton of Marlboros from a film office in London (in payment for putting together some storyboards for a big-budget short) and 2) craft concept art for “eF” where characters look like the actors who are being courted to play the parts (not as rewarding as it sounds), Zack Snyder’s list included 1) gathering the results of a (not-so-very) secret test screening of “Watchmen” in Portland and 2) appear on the SpikeTV Scream Awards to show new clips from the aforementioned film.

Actually, when I say I want to be Zack Snyder, that’s not really true — do I want to be a guy who responds, when told his shooting style is similar to a young David Lean, “the similarities are inevitable”? — I think I’d like his job right now though, putting finishing touches the long-awaited big-screen adaptation of the greatest graphic novel ever written.

As Zack Snyder, what would be going through my mind right now would be, “Boy, I don’t wanna mess this one up. I mean, it’s only by the grace of some bizarre homoerotic accident that ‘300′ was the huge success that it was, I shouldn’t piss off those comic book / graphic novel fans who don’t get overly excited seeing muscular, sweaty men running around with spears. Maybe I (POSSIBLE SPOILER:) should jig the budget a bit and put the squid back in at the end of ‘Watchmen’.”

Ah, well, back to my crappy life. If you didn’t click already, the YouTube version of the new clips is embedded below (and it looks fantaaaaaaaaaaaaaastic, despite the low quality). Hopefully a high-res version will be officially be released when the new trailer debuts, as is expected, with “Quantum of Solace” on the 31st.
