For this installment of my own recollections of the making of the film “GallowWalker” in Namibia at the end of 2006, I actually have some making-of videos that I put together at the time (with the help of Nicky Matthew, who shot the footage for the official making-of, which I assume, will eventually accompany the DVD whenever the film is released in whatever form) which were intended to sort of give periodic status reports back to the investors in the UK.
Despite the rosy, positive tone most of the crew tried to maintain, things were becoming increasingly tense down on location, especially for the creative types, who were starting to hit the wall where the money the investors seemed to be willing to spend had ended. They layer of foggy gloom that hung over Swakopmund most days didn’t help matters any, and it seemed the only escape was to get out on location and work on sets or at least soak up some atmosphere, in the African sun where the movie would hopefully, actually be shot one day.
So preparations moved forward, as the video below shows, toward a start of principal photography which was rapidly approaching. Note: I shot this video very awkwardly on a mini-DV camera, and then compressed the hell out of it for the web, so the quality is so-so. The other two videos that follow this one were from a Hi-Def source and are subsequently better.

[...] A recap for those who just stumbled in … several long years of my life, helping to realize a zombie western (that’s a western with zombies) started in 2004 with “The Wretched”, a script by Joanne Reay, to be directed by Andrew Goth. You can find a plethora of information on that film scattered around the various sections of this blog (just use the “search this site” box at the top of the page). Through many, multiple rewrites and cast changes, a new project was born in 2006 which was to star Wesley Snipes as a man hunting down the undead gang that was responsible for the murder of someone close to him. You can find items on this blog following the development of that project starting here, which lead up to some behind-the-scenes videos. [...]
