Making “GallowWalker” - part 3 (with video!)

For this installment of my own recollections of the making of the film “GallowWalker” in Namibia at the end of 2006, I actually have some making-of videos that I put together at the time (with the help of Nicky Matthew, who shot the footage for the official making-of, which I assume, will eventually accompany the DVD whenever the film is released in whatever form) which were intended to sort of…

Charlton Heston 1924-2008

It’s strange that just last night I was watching “Total Recall” with some friends and I realized how much Arnold Schwarzenegger resembled Charlton Heston in features and acting style in some of the scenes, and started wondering what Ridley Scott’s proposed version of “I Am Legend” (to star Schwarzenegger) would have been like, especially as a pseudo-remake of “Omega Man”, which I still consider to be a brilliant movie, starring…

Making “GallowWalker” - part 2

[a continuation of my own experiences on the making of the film "GallowWalker". You can read part 1 here]

With Wesley Snipes officially on-board, things really started moving fast. The film’s line-producer was in place, in Namibia, setting up a production base in the town of Swakopmund. Basically, if you are shooting anywhere near the western side of Namibia…

Arthur C. Clarke 1917-2008

Science fiction legend Arthur C. Clarke died yesterday at his home in Sri Lanka. Clarke was the visionary behind many influential sci-fi works including “Childhood’s End”, “Rendezvous with Rama” and, of course, “2001: A Space Odyssey”.

Clarke’s close collaboration with Stanley Kubrick on the film adaptation of “2001″ in 1968, brought forth an epic change in the way science fiction was imagined on the screen. Classics such as “Silent…

Play nice IMAP …

Having problems setting up GMail to work seamlessly with Apple OS X Mail? I was. It was the bane of my existence for awhile and continued getting worse until I’d had enough. Having multiple e-mail accounts spread across multiple computers (and devices) I’m sure didn’t help, but I’m sure a lot of you out there have the same issue, so hopefully this will make your life a…

While We’re Talking Remakes … [updated]

Zap2it reports that the television remake of the UK series “Spaced” is going ahead as planned, produced by McG and written by Adam Barr (”Will & Grace”). I’m sure everyone is hoping for the same success as “The Office” (many Americans don’t even know there was a UK original), but I’m not sure I do. “Spaced” was an original show, wholly and totally original, and that just…

NoOoOooooo!!

The day will come when I no longer have to embarrass myself constantly bitching and complaining about remakes, but that day is not today. News is now coming from AICN, via an exclusive over at Crave Online that Platinum Dunes, the team who are responsible for the recent “Texas Chainsaw Massacre”, “Amityville Horror” and “The Hitcher” remakes (that’s Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form) now have…

Nine Inch Nails “Ghosts” Released Online

The new Nine Inch Nails album, “Ghosts”, a 36 track instrumental collection, has been released exclusively online. Following the example of Radiohead with “In Rainbows”, the main difference here is that the NIN tracks sound amazing, rather than the really-very-low-quality tracks Radiohead released (as more or less a teaser as the album eventually went on-sale as a regular music CD).

The album is available in multiple formats (all downloadable, high-quality, DRM…

Home of the One-Week Screenplay

I have to admit, I’m a bit of an idiot. A little over a week ago, I got the idea in my head that I could actually write a screenplay in a week. See, I’d read this article over at Jeff Vandermeer’s blog entitled “How to Write a Novel in Two Months”, and I figured, taking into account the “exchange rate” between a novel and a…

Starting to Lose Faith in Apple

I have long considered myself one of the worlds biggest Apple fans, so I have been biting my tongue for as long as I could about Leopard. But this week was the last straw. I’m sure there are even more fervent fans like me who will say, “well, you shouldn’t have done that.” I’ve seen them on the message boards, but when it comes right down to…
