RED Scarlet Announcement Nov. 13

Mark your calendars, the RED Scarlet (and it’s 5K big brother, Epic) is not quite dead yet apparently, according to a post on the RED User messageboards from Jim Jannard, RED’s president. He says, “We will announce the new Scarlet and Epic programs on Thursday Nov. 13th. I want to say that no one has any idea how incredible this announcement will be. Call this hype… please.”

I, for one, am certainly intrigued. I’d pretty much convinced myself that 3K wasn’t going to be an option for bargain basement filmmaking types anytime soon. Always cryptic, Jannard continues in his note: “I am quite sure that the announcement will be called a ’scam’. Should be a lot of fun to hear the reactions. I can’t wait.”

Well, I personally know at least one world-class D.O.P. who’s been warning me away from anything RED (at least until they’re a little more proven) who will call it a “scam” for sure, but I can’t help but be a little bit excited as to the new direction now that there’s news on the way. Let’s just hope it’s something with a reasonable timeframe for delivery.

The horse’s mouth.
